Hyderabad: In a major boost to Telangana’s growing reputation as a global innovation and technology hub, US-based biotechnology giant Regeneron has chosen Hyderabad to establish its first Global Capability Centre (GCC) outside the United States. The development is being seen as another milestone in Hyderabad’s rapid emergence as one of India’s leading destinations for global corporations.

The announcement came after a delegation led by Bari Kowal, Senior Vice President of Regeneron, met Telangana IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Telangana Secretariat on Tuesday. During the meeting, Regeneron representatives and Telangana Life Sciences CEO Sarvesh Singh exchanged Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) related to the establishment of the new centre.

Speaking on the occasion, Sridhar Babu said Hyderabad is increasingly becoming the preferred destination for multinational companies setting up Global Capability Centres due to its world-class infrastructure, strong digital ecosystem and highly skilled workforce. He noted that the expansion of GCCs in Hyderabad is expected to create substantial employment opportunities for IT engineers, biotechnology professionals and technology experts.

The Minister expressed happiness that Regeneron, one of the world’s leading biotechnology companies known for its innovative medicines and cutting-edge research, has selected Telangana for its maiden GCC outside the US. He stated that the decision would significantly strengthen Telangana’s global standing in the biotechnology and life sciences sectors.

Regeneron currently operates offices and manufacturing facilities in countries including Ireland, the United Kingdom, Germany and the Netherlands. However, officials said the proposed Hyderabad centre would serve as a unique global hub coordinating the company’s worldwide operations.

According to the Minister, the upcoming GCC will focus on high-end digital and research-driven services such as clinical trial operations, advanced data sciences, artificial intelligence engineering and commercial analytics. Industry experts believe the move reflects Hyderabad’s growing importance in global pharmaceutical, biotechnology and AI-driven innovation ecosystems.

Sridhar Babu highlighted that Hyderabad presently hosts nearly 450 Global Capability Centres and has emerged as India’s second-largest GCC destination, overtaking metropolitan cities such as Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai. He said Telangana’s strong ecosystem in biotechnology, life sciences, artificial intelligence and digital technologies continues to attract international investments at an accelerated pace.

The Minister also reiterated the Telangana Government’s commitment towards strengthening research, industrial infrastructure and manufacturing capabilities. He said ambitious projects such as the expansion of Genome Valley and the proposed Green Pharma City are expected to further enhance the state’s life sciences ecosystem and attract more global investments in the coming years.

Officials stated that the proposed Regeneron GCC is expected to generate a large number of high-value jobs while contributing significantly to Hyderabad’s growing profile as a global technology and life sciences powerhouse.

The meeting was attended by Bari Kowal, Senior Vice President of Regeneron; Rajiv Onat, Executive Director of Regeneron GCC; senior company representatives and officials from the Telangana Industries Department.
