Hyderabad: In a major leap towards technology-driven policing and citizen-centric governance, the Telangana Police has launched the Next-Generation Telangana Emergency Response Support System (TG-ERSS) – Dial 112, an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered integrated emergency response platform designed to provide faster, smarter and more coordinated assistance across the State.

The state-of-the-art system was inaugurated by Director General of Police (DGP) Dr. C.V. Anand, IPS, at the Telangana Integrated Command and Control Centre (TGiCCC) in Hyderabad in the presence of senior police officers, government officials and representatives from various emergency response agencies.

Describing the launch as a transformational milestone in modern policing, the DGP said the upgraded Dial 112 platform brings multiple emergency services under a single unified emergency number, enabling citizens to access Police, Fire Services, Ambulance, Women Safety, Child Protection, Disaster Response and several other emergency services through one integrated platform.

AI at the Core of Emergency Response

The newly launched TG-ERSS represents a significant shift from conventional emergency call management systems to an intelligent, AI-enabled ecosystem capable of improving response speed, operational efficiency and inter-departmental coordination.

The platform incorporates several advanced Artificial Intelligence-powered features, including:

  • AI-based incident prioritisation.
  • Intelligent duplicate call filtering.
  • Smart call routing.
  • AI-assisted dispatch management.
  • Voice-to-text transcription for faster documentation.
  • Advanced caller location identification.
  • Real-time operational dashboards.
  • Unified communication interface for all emergency responders.

The system has also been integrated with drones and emerging emergency-response technologies, enabling authorities to monitor incidents more effectively and coordinate field operations in real time.

According to Telangana Police, these innovations are expected to significantly improve situational awareness, reduce manual intervention and ensure that emergency resources are deployed quickly and efficiently.

Faster Emergency Response Across Telangana

One of the biggest achievements of the upgraded system is the remarkable improvement in response efficiency.

The average call handling time has been reduced from 190 seconds to just 133 seconds, representing an improvement of nearly 30 percent.

The State has also achieved emergency response times that significantly outperform the national average.

Current response times include:

  • 6 minutes in urban areas.
  • 15 minutes in rural areas.
  • 10 minutes and 30 seconds as the overall statewide average.

By comparison, the national average emergency response time remains around 18 minutes, placing Telangana among the country’s fastest emergency response systems.

Officials said these improvements directly translate into quicker assistance during road accidents, crimes, medical emergencies, fires and disaster situations, where every minute can save lives.

Massive Operational Capacity

The TG-ERSS Centre functions round the clock with 164 trained emergency response professionals working in shifts to ensure uninterrupted service.

The scale of operations highlights the importance of the platform in everyday policing and public safety.

On an average day, the centre:

  • Receives nearly 14 lakh incoming calls.
  • Handles approximately 18,000 genuine emergency calls.
  • Dispatches nearly 7,500 emergency incidents requiring field response.

To ensure rapid deployment, the system is digitally connected to a fleet of 1,860 patrol vehicles spread across Telangana.

Using intelligent vehicle-location technology, the platform automatically identifies and dispatches the nearest available patrol vehicle, reducing travel time and enabling faster on-ground intervention.

Government-Owned Infrastructure Enhances Efficiency

DGP Dr. C.V. Anand noted that migrating the Dial 100 and Dial 112 services to the Government-owned infrastructure at the Telangana Integrated Command and Control Centre has strengthened operational control while reducing dependence on external vendors.

The transition has also generated substantial cost savings and improved data security, system reliability and overall operational flexibility.

He said the integrated command centre now serves as the technological backbone of Telangana’s emergency management architecture, enabling seamless coordination among multiple departments during emergencies.

AI Drones to Strengthen Future Emergency Operations

As part of the next phase of police modernisation, Telangana Police announced plans to introduce AI-enabled drones on a pilot basis.

The drones will initially be deployed in:

  • Hyderabad Commissionerate
  • Cyberabad Commissionerate
  • Malkajgiri Commissionerate
  • Future City Commissionerate

These drones are expected to support emergency response operations, disaster management, traffic monitoring, search-and-rescue missions and maintenance of law and order by providing real-time aerial surveillance and rapid situational assessment.

Officials believe drone-assisted policing will significantly enhance decision-making during critical incidents while improving officer safety and public protection.

Public Participation Key to Success

Calling upon citizens to remember 112 as the single emergency helpline, the DGP urged media organisations and public institutions to spread awareness about the service so that people can access immediate assistance whenever required.

Highlighting the philosophy behind the new system, he remarked:

“Every call matters. Every second counts. Every response strengthens public trust.”

The inaugural programme was attended by Smt. Shikha Goel, IPS, Principal Secretary, Home Department and Director, TGCSB & FSL; Sri V.V. Srinivasa Rao, IPS, DGP, Technical Services; Sri V.C. Sajjanar, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad; Sri V.B. Kamalasan Reddy, Director, Telangana Integrated Command and Control Centre; Dr. M. Ramesh, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Cyberabad; Smt. B. Sumathi, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Malkajgiri; Sri Vikram Singh Mann, IPS, Director General, Telangana Disaster Response & Fire Services; Smt. Charu Sinha, IPS, DGP, CID; Sri Gajarao Bhupal, IPS, Inspector General of Police; Sri Satyanarayana Reddy, Managing Director, TGTS; Sri S. Chandrasekhar Reddy, IPS, Inspector General of Police, Multi Zone-I, along with several other senior police officers and government officials.

With the launch of the AI-powered TG-ERSS Dial 112 platform, Telangana has taken a decisive step towards building one of India’s most advanced, integrated and technology-driven emergency response systems—one that combines artificial intelligence, digital governance and rapid field deployment to deliver faster, smarter and more reliable public safety services.
