Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, along with Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, conducted a comprehensive review of the state’s power sector, issuing a series of key directives aimed at strengthening electricity supply, accelerating infrastructure development, and promoting green energy initiatives.

Focus on Reliable and Smart Power Supply

During the review meeting, the Chief Minister emphasized the urgent need to address supply deficiencies and ensure uninterrupted power across the state. He directed officials to adopt Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based technologies to monitor demand patterns, predict outages, and improve overall efficiency in power distribution.

Revanth Reddy stressed that leveraging AI would not only minimize technical losses but also enable faster response mechanisms to faults, ensuring a more reliable and intelligent power network.

Clearing Misconceptions on “Raithu DISCOM”

A significant portion of the meeting focused on the proposed Telangana Raithu Power Distribution Company Limited (Raithu DISCOM). The Chief Minister instructed officials to proactively clear misconceptions among employees and staff regarding their integration into the new entity.

He underscored the importance of transparent communication, stating that clarity among employees is crucial for smooth restructuring and improved service delivery in the agriculture power segment.

Preventing Overload and Strengthening Infrastructure

Highlighting the issue of transformer failures, the Chief Minister directed officials to ensure that transformers are not subjected to excessive load, which often leads to breakdowns and service interruptions.

In view of Telangana’s rapid development—including new industrial corridors, high-speed rail projects, and the proposed Regional Ring Road (Triple R)—the government has prioritized expansion of power infrastructure. Revanth Reddy ordered the immediate initiation of new substations to meet the rising electricity demand from industries and urban growth centers.

Fast-Tracking Green Energy Approvals

Reaffirming the state’s commitment to sustainability, the Chief Minister instructed officials to expedite approvals for applicants under the Green Energy Policy, especially those who have applied on a priority basis.

He also called for swift clearances for large-scale data centers, recognizing their growing importance in the digital economy and the need for robust and reliable power supply to support them.

Solar Power Push and Women Empowerment

A major highlight of the review was the emphasis on expanding solar energy adoption. The Chief Minister directed authorities to:

  • Create awareness among women in Self-Help Groups (SHGs) about solar power usage
  • Promote the use of solar stoves as a sustainable and cost-effective alternative

He noted that empowering women with knowledge of renewable energy solutions would have long-term economic and environmental benefits.

Solar Plants Near Substations: Pilot Project

To optimize land use and improve efficiency, the government plans to set up solar power plants adjacent to substations. As part of a pilot project, two such plants will be established in each of the erstwhile districts (excluding Hyderabad), wherever land is available.

In total, 18 solar power plants will be developed across nine districts under this initiative. The Chief Minister directed officials to appoint nodal officers for each project to ensure timely execution and accountability.

Vision for a Sustainable and Future-Ready Power Sector

Revanth Reddy reiterated that Telangana must build a future-ready power ecosystem capable of supporting industrial growth, urban expansion, and digital infrastructure. He stressed the need for a balanced approach combining technology, infrastructure, and sustainability.

The Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka echoed similar views, highlighting the importance of coordinated efforts among departments to achieve the state’s ambitious energy goals.

The review meeting signals the Telangana government’s strong intent to modernize the power sector, improve service reliability, and accelerate the transition to green energy. With a focus on AI-driven management, infrastructure expansion, and inclusive initiatives like women’s participation in solar energy, the state aims to position itself as a leader in sustainable and efficient power distribution in India.
