Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has urged leaders of RTC workers’ unions to come forward with a comprehensive action plan regarding union recognition elections and the proposed merger, emphasizing the need to strengthen the organization and improve passenger services.

During a बैठक held at the Chief Minister’s residence on Friday evening, attended by Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, senior officials, and representatives of various RTC unions, the Chief Minister assured that the long-pending Pay Revision Commission (PRC) issue would be resolved.

Consensus on Union Elections and Merger

The Chief Minister suggested that all unions should hold discussions and present unified options to the government regarding recognition elections and merger. In case of disagreement, individual unions may submit their proposals, and the government will approve common points while deliberating on differences.

Government Commitment to RTC Revival

Revanth Reddy clarified that the existing RTC dues were not from his government’s tenure but assured that efforts are being made with sincerity to clear them. He also noted that funds meant for RTC employees were utilized by the previous government.

He stressed that emotional or political influences should not weaken the institution, calling for collective responsibility in ensuring a permanent resolution to RTC issues.

No Job Losses; Strengthening Workforce

The Chief Minister reiterated that no driver will be removed from service, assuring job security to employees. He highlighted that the government has already undertaken recruitment drives, increased the fleet size, and provided compassionate appointments after coming to power.

He recalled his long-standing association with workers’ movements since his early political career, stating that RTC employees, along with Singareni and power sector workers, played a crucial role in bringing the current government to power.

Major Infrastructure Push: New Bus Terminals

To modernize RTC services, the government has allocated:

  • 100 acres in Gajularamaram
  • 150 acres in Bahadurpura (near Shamshabad Airport)

These will be developed into international-standard bus terminals to enhance connectivity for inter-state and long-distance passengers.

Shift Towards Electric Mobility

Highlighting the financial burden of approximately ₹2,000 crore annually on diesel expenses, the Chief Minister said the government is focusing on electric buses (EVs) to reduce operational costs.

Plans include:

  • Procurement of 1,000 electric buses
  • Integration with Metro and MMTS services
  • Strengthening last-mile connectivity

He also mentioned efforts to restructure high-interest loans and improve financial sustainability.

Improving Employee-Management Relations

The Chief Minister emphasized the need for a cordial relationship between employees and management, suggesting regular meetings between depot managers, senior officials, and union leaders.

He directed officials to hold quarterly meetings with union representatives, stating that half the problems could be resolved through dialogue.

Support for Employees and Retirees

The government has increased payments to retired employees from ₹700 crore to ₹1,000 crore, demonstrating its commitment to employee welfare.

Revanth Reddy assured that the government would stand firmly with RTC workers and resolve issues 100 percent, urging them to avoid internal conflicts that could harm the organization.

Positive Response to Strike-Related Demands

Union representatives requested:

  • Payment of wages for the strike period
  • Withdrawal of cases filed during the strike

Responding positively, the Chief Minister directed Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar and officials to take immediate action on both demands.
