Hyderabad: As the city gears up to celebrate Diwali 2026 with enthusiasm and festive spirit, the Telangana Integrated Command and Control Centre (TGICCC) has issued an important safety advisory, urging citizens to exercise caution while bursting firecrackers and decorating their homes with electrical lights. The advisory aims to prevent accidents, fire incidents, injuries and other emergencies during the festival of lights.

Diwali is celebrated with great excitement by people of all age groups, from young children to senior citizens. However, the festive celebrations can sometimes lead to unforeseen accidents, particularly due to the careless handling of firecrackers, electrical short circuits and fire hazards. Keeping public safety in mind, the TGICCC has appealed to people to celebrate the festival responsibly and take necessary precautions to ensure the safety of their families and communities.

Precautions While Bursting Firecrackers

The Command and Control Centre has advised citizens to follow safety measures while purchasing, handling and bursting firecrackers. People should burst crackers only in open and designated spaces, away from buildings, vehicles, shops and other inflammable materials.

Parents have been urged to ensure that children burst firecrackers only under adult supervision. Citizens should avoid holding lit crackers in their hands, stay at a safe distance after lighting them and never attempt to relight firecrackers that fail to explode. Keeping a bucket of water or sand nearby is also advisable to deal with minor fire incidents.

The use of firecrackers near petrol stations, LPG cylinders, electrical installations and crowded residential areas should be strictly avoided.

Be Cautious with Electrical Decorations

The TGICCC has also highlighted the importance of electrical safety during Diwali. Decorative lighting, serial bulbs and temporary electrical connections can pose serious risks if they are not installed properly.

Citizens have been advised to use quality electrical products, avoid overloading power sockets and ensure that wiring and extension boards are in good condition. Damaged wires, loose connections and unattended electrical decorations can cause short circuits and potentially lead to major fire accidents.

People should switch off decorative lights and other unnecessary electrical appliances when leaving their homes or going to sleep. Special care should also be taken to keep electrical equipment away from curtains, paper decorations and other combustible materials.

Dial 112 for Immediate Emergency Assistance

As part of its public safety advisory, the Telangana Command and Control Centre has urged citizens to immediately dial 112 in case of a fire accident, injury or any other emergency during Diwali celebrations.

Officials stated that the Telangana Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) operates round the clock and is equipped to respond to emergency calls. Through coordination among the police, fire and emergency medical services, the system will facilitate timely assistance to people in distress.

The emergency helpline is intended to provide a coordinated response to different types of emergencies, ensuring that citizens can seek assistance without delay.

Celebrate Responsibly and Ensure Everyone’s Safety

The TGICCC issued the safety advisory through a press note dated November 7, 2026, appealing to citizens to remain alert and follow basic safety precautions throughout the festive celebrations.

Authorities have stressed that a little care and awareness can go a long way in preventing avoidable accidents. Citizens are encouraged to celebrate Diwali with family and friends while remaining mindful of the safety of children, senior citizens, neighbours and the wider community.

The message from the Telangana Command and Control Centre is clear: celebrate the festival of lights with happiness and responsibility, and remember that 112 is the emergency number to call whenever immediate assistance is required.
