Smart Ration Card Distribution Launched in Sangareddy on Independence Day
Sangareddy: Telangana Chief Minister Shri A. Revanth Reddy announced that the state government will take steps to conduct competitive examinations once every six months to fill vacancies in government departments. Calling on unemployed youth to prepare for competitive examinations, the Chief Minister said his government is committed to filling every vacant post and ensuring that no government position remains unfilled.
The announcement was made during a public meeting at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Stadium in Sangareddy, where the Chief Minister formally launched the distribution of new Smart Ration Cards on the occasion of Independence Day. The programme marked an important step towards strengthening the public distribution system and ensuring that welfare benefits reach eligible families in a transparent and effective manner.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy outlined the various welfare and development initiatives being implemented by the state government, with particular emphasis on farmers, women and youth. He said the government was working with the objective of creating an inclusive development model while ensuring that the benefits of welfare schemes reach the most vulnerable sections of society.
Sanna Rice Scheme for Food Security
The Chief Minister said the government was committed to ensuring that no poor person goes hungry and that nobody should have to depend on others for food. With this objective, Telangana introduced the distribution of fine-quality rice, popularly known as Sanna Biyyam, to beneficiaries, stating that such a scheme had not been implemented in any other state in the country.
He recalled that the Congress government had played a key role in establishing the ration shop system in the country. After launching the Sanna Biyyam distribution programme from the Huzurnagar constituency, the scheme has now been extended across Telangana, benefiting around 3.42 crore people, he said.
According to the Chief Minister, the distribution of fine rice to economically weaker sections has also contributed to a reduction in market prices by around ₹10 to ₹15. He reiterated his government’s commitment to making agriculture a source of prosperity rather than a burden.
Focus on Farmers and Rural Economy
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said that since the formation of the people’s government, around ₹1.70 lakh crore has been spent on the agriculture sector. Over the past 32 months, the government has paid approximately ₹90,000 crore for the procurement of crops produced by farmers, strengthening the rural economy.
He further said that ₹21,000 crore had been deposited into farmers’ accounts, helping nearly 25 lakh farmers become debt-free. Referring to central government reports, he claimed that Telangana’s farming community has among the lowest levels of indebtedness in the country.
Under the Rythu Bharosa scheme, financial assistance has been increased to ₹12,000 per acre, with ₹36,000 crore provided to farmers so far, he said. The Chief Minister maintained that farmers were now cultivating their fields with greater confidence and that his government had worked to transform agriculture into a celebration. “Respecting farmers like kings is part of our government’s culture,” he said.
Women-Centric Welfare Initiatives
Highlighting the government’s focus on women, Revanth Reddy said the concept of “Indiramma Rajyam” represented a government committed to women’s empowerment. He said the government was working with the goal of turning one crore women into millionaires through economic empowerment and livelihood opportunities.
Self-help groups have been provided bank linkage worth ₹60,000 crore at zero interest, while ₹11,000 crore has been spent to facilitate free travel for women in state-run RTC buses, he said.
The government has also entrusted women’s self-help groups with the task of stitching school uniforms for 27 lakh students across the state. In the housing sector, 4.5 lakh Indiramma houses were allocated to women in the first phase, followed by another 2.5 lakh houses in the second phase.
The Chief Minister also said the government had taken responsibility for providing pensions to widows and single women. Pension support has also been proposed for handloom workers, toddy tappers and people affected by diseases such as sickle cell anaemia. Eligible beneficiaries were urged to apply for the benefits.
Assurance on Government Jobs
Addressing concerns among unemployed youth, Revanth Reddy said the government had already filled 70,000 government posts within the first year of assuming office. Notifications for another 10,000 jobs had recently been issued, he added.
He urged unemployed youth not to be misled by false claims or political propaganda. “The responsibility of filling government jobs is ours. We will not leave any vacancy unattended,” he said, assuring young people that competitive examinations would be conducted regularly.
The Chief Minister announced that the government would introduce a system of conducting competitive examinations every six months to facilitate the timely filling of vacancies. He called upon young people to use the opportunity to prepare seriously for the examinations and said the responsibility of conducting the examinations rested with his government.
Moving Telangana Towards Development
Revanth Reddy also spoke about the financial challenges inherited by the state government. He said Telangana was being moved towards development despite the burden of debts and financial liabilities accumulated during the previous government.
The state is paying around ₹75,000 crore every year towards debt servicing, he said, while efforts are being made to restore welfare programmes that had faced difficulties and ensure their effective implementation.
Concluding his address, the Chief Minister said providing good governance and delivering welfare to the people was the responsibility of the people’s government. He sought the continued blessings and support of the people, asserting that with public support, there was nothing that could not be achieved.
Revanth Reddy assured the gathering that his government would stand by the promises made to the people and continue working towards welfare, inclusive development, employment generation, food security and the overall progress of Telangana.
