CM accuses KCR of staying away from people, questions his continued absence from Assembly; announces major institutions to be named after Telangana icons
Hyderabad, September 2, 2026: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on BRS president and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao, challenging him to attend the State Assembly and participate in a direct debate comparing the performance of the Congress-led People’s Government in its first 1,000 days with the 10-year rule of the BRS.
Addressing a public meeting after inaugurating the newly constructed high-level bridge at Musarambagh–Amberpet in Hyderabad, the Chief Minister said KCR should come to the Assembly if he genuinely wanted to raise issues concerning Telangana and its people.
“If KCR truly intends to do justice to Telangana and has faith in his own record, he should attend the Assembly. I am ready for a debate comparing what KCR achieved in 10 years with what our government has delivered in 1,000 days,” Revanth Reddy said.
The Chief Minister also criticised KCR for allegedly remaining confined to his farmhouse and staying away from public life for nearly 1,000 days. He questioned how a leader occupying the post of Leader of the Opposition could remain inaccessible to people and absent from Assembly proceedings for such a prolonged period.
Revanth calls for protests seeking KCR’s resignation
Stepping up his attack, Revanth Reddy called for protests demanding KCR’s resignation as Leader of the Opposition. He said dharnas should be organised for six days from Tuesday and urged party workers to hold a major protest at Indira Park on September 6.
The Chief Minister said he was prepared to answer questions on the performance of his government when the Assembly session begins on September 7.
“Is there any other Opposition leader in the country who has stayed away from the public for 1,000 days?” he asked, alleging that Telangana’s principal Opposition had failed to discharge its constitutional and political responsibilities.
Questions KCR’s salary and security expenditure
Revanth Reddy also raised questions over the expenditure incurred by the government on KCR during the past 1,000 days. According to the Chief Minister, KCR received approximately ₹1.24 crore in salary during this period, while the government spent around ₹22 crore on his security and other facilities.
“If a government employee fails to report for duty for a year, they are dismissed. What should be done with KCR?” the Chief Minister asked.
Revanth Reddy asserted that he had not taken even a single hour of leave during his 1,000-day tenure and accused KCR of failing to meet farmers, women, students, Dalits, Adivasis and other sections of society.
He further alleged that KCR rarely came out of his farmhouse except on personal occasions, including a visit related to his grandson’s hospitalisation or the death of a relative.
‘KCR used power to promote family members’
The Chief Minister also accused the former Chief Minister of using political power to advance members of his family. He alleged that KCR made his son K.T. Rama Rao and son-in-law ministers during the BRS government and gave prominent political positions to members of his family.
Revanth Reddy contrasted this with the Congress government, highlighting the elevation of leaders from different social backgrounds to ministerial, parliamentary and advisory positions. He said the People’s Government had sought to provide political representation to weaker sections and other communities.
Major institutions to be named after Telangana icons
In a significant announcement, Revanth Reddy said the government had decided to rename major healthcare and educational institutions after prominent Telangana personalities.
The TIMS hospital at Alwal will be named after former Chief Minister T. Anjaiah, while the TIMS hospital at LB Nagar will be named after Telangana leader Konda Lakshman Bapuji. The Warangal Super Speciality Hospital will be named after Professor K. Jayashankar, one of the prominent intellectuals associated with the Telangana movement.
The Chief Minister also defended the installation of the Rajiv Gandhi statue at the State Secretariat and warned that the government would not tolerate any attempt to remove or damage it. He said statues of Sardar Sarvai Papanna and Mahatma Jyotiba Phule had also been installed on Necklace Road.
Revanth Reddy highlighted several other initiatives aimed at honouring Telangana’s social reformers and movement leaders. He said Telangana martyr Srikantha Chary’s mother Shankaramma had been appointed as a member of the Women’s Commission, while the Women’s University was named after Chakali Ilamma. He also said Chakali Ilamma’s granddaughter had been appointed to the Women’s Commission.
CM highlights welfare and development initiatives
Revanth Reddy accused the previous BRS government of failing to adequately address the problems of the poor, particularly the issue of ration cards. He said the Congress government had focused on expanding welfare measures and restoring dignity to economically weaker sections.
The Chief Minister said the government had spent around ₹3,500 crore through the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and was implementing the distribution of Indiramma houses in the names of women. He said the government was constructing seven lakh Indiramma houses across Telangana, including one lakh houses for the poor in Hyderabad.
He also highlighted the provision of ration cards and distribution of six kilograms of fine-quality rice to 3.48 crore people, asserting that the benefit was extended to beneficiaries irrespective of their political affiliations.
Taking aim at the previous government’s handling of Hyderabad’s infrastructure, Revanth Reddy referred to the flooding of Osmania General Hospital during the BRS regime and said his government was constructing a new Osmania Hospital at an estimated cost of ₹2,000 crore.
SC categorisation, BC census and new policies
The Chief Minister listed several other measures undertaken by his government during its 1,000-day tenure. These include resolving the issue of SC categorisation, conducting a BC caste census and introducing a dedicated policy framework for gig workers.
He also pointed to new policies in sectors such as sports, information technology, tourism and endowments as part of the government’s broader development agenda.
Revanth Reddy said the People’s Government was working with a focus on welfare, social justice and long-term development, and challenged the BRS leadership to place its 10-year record alongside the Congress government’s 1,000-day performance before the people of Telangana.
The Chief Minister maintained that his government had not misused power for personal gain and said the forthcoming Assembly session would provide an appropriate platform for a detailed political and performance-based comparison between the two governments.
