Astrologer Chandraswami worshipping Lord Shiva

Hyderabad: Navagraha Pradakshina (circumambulation of the nine planetary deities) holds a special place in Hindu tradition. According to traditional beliefs and Vedic astrology, performing the pradakshina in the prescribed manner is believed to invite the blessings of the Navagrahas and bring positive energy, peace, and prosperity into one’s life.

According to tradition, devotees should take a bath and wear clean clothes before performing the pradakshina. The idols of the Navagrahas should not be touched during the ritual.

As per the customary practice, devotees should enter the Navagraha mandapam and, while facing the Sun deity, perform nine clockwise circumambulations beginning from the Moon’s side. Thereafter, from the side of Mercury, two circumambulations should be performed while remembering Rahu and Ketu.

Finally, devotees should complete one last circumambulation, mentally chanting the name of each of the nine planets, and leave the shrine without looking back at the Navagrahas.

It is also considered auspicious to recite the Navagraha Stotra during the pradakshina.

Navagraha Pradakshina Stotra:

Adityaya Cha Somaya Mangalaya Budhaya Cha
Guru Shukra Shanibhyashcha Rahave Ketave Namah॥

Devotees believe that performing the ritual with devotion, discipline, and mindfulness enhances its spiritual significance and invokes the grace of the Navagrahas.
