Hyderabad/Secunderabad, September 1, 2026: In a significant initiative aimed at promoting the health and well-being of veterans and their families, Rashtriya Sainik Sanstha–Telangana facilitated free comprehensive annual health check-ups for 553 ex-servicemen and their family members between August 16 and 31, 2026.
The initiative was coordinated by Colonel P. Ramesh Kumar, General Secretary, Rashtriya Sainik Sanstha–Telangana, in collaboration with the Veteran Network of Synchrony Financial Services. The beneficiaries underwent medical examinations at respective Vijaya Diagnostic Centres, with the cost of the diagnostic investigations sponsored by the Veteran Network.
The initiative assumes particular significance for veterans and their families residing in areas where access to the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) network remains limited. The programme provided them with access to essential preventive healthcare and regular health screening.
Comprehensive Health Screening
The annual health assessment included a wide range of medical investigations, covering blood pressure, height and weight, fasting and post-prandial blood sugar, serum cholesterol and lipid profile, thyroid profile, chest X-ray, electrocardiogram (ECG) and complete blood profile.
The health screening programme was conducted across six locations. Hanamkonda recorded the highest participation with 198 beneficiaries, followed by Nandyal with 87, Sangareddy with 73, Mancherial and Warangal with 69 each, and Rajahmundry with 57 beneficiaries.
In total, 553 ex-servicemen and their family members availed themselves of the free health-check facility.
The programme focused not merely on treating existing illnesses but on early detection and prevention of common health conditions. The screenings were designed to help identify hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular risk factors, thyroid disorders, anaemia and other age-related health concerns at an early stage.
Appreciating the collaborative effort, Colonel P. Ramesh Kumar, General Secretary, Rashtriya Sainik Sanstha–Telangana, expressed his gratitude to the Veteran Network of Synchrony Financial Services for sponsoring the medical investigations and to Vijaya Diagnostics for extending the required diagnostic facilities.
Colonel Ramesh Kumar said that safeguarding the health, dignity and well-being of veterans should remain a continuing responsibility of society, particularly for those living in areas where the ECHS network has limited reach.
He emphasised that such collaborative initiatives demonstrate how veterans’ organisations, corporate institutions and healthcare providers can come together to bridge gaps in healthcare access and ensure timely preventive care for the veteran community.
Rashtriya Sainik Sanstha–Telangana said it would continue to explore and develop similar partnerships and initiatives focused on healthcare, welfare, rehabilitation and dignified living for ex-servicemen, war widows, veterans and their families across Telangana.
