Hyderabad, April 9: The LV Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) is set to organize its annual ‘Whitathon’ run on May 18, 2025, at the University of Hyderabad, with the aim of raising awareness about Retinoblastoma, a rare but serious eye cancer affecting children, and to raise funds for its early diagnosis and treatment.
Retinoblastoma is the most common type of primary malignant intraocular cancer in children, originating in the retina. Early detection is crucial for saving both vision and life. Funds raised through the event will go toward providing free treatment to underprivileged children diagnosed with this condition, according to an official press release from LVPEI.
This year’s Whitathon will include a variety of run categories designed to cater to participants of all fitness levels. These include:
-
Competitive Runs: 21 km (Half Marathon), 10 km, and 5 km
-
Fun Runs: 5 km and 3 km
For the first time, a 21K Half Marathon has been introduced, which will act as a qualifying run for the NMDC Hyderabad Marathon, providing an additional incentive for long-distance running enthusiasts.
The event is expected to attract participants from across the city and beyond, uniting people for a noble cause through fitness and community involvement.
