Davos / Hyderabad: Reinforcing Telangana’s rapidly growing stature as India’s next-generation digital and artificial intelligence hub, the ‘Telangana Rising’ delegation led by Hon’ble Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has secured yet another marquee investment at the World Economic Forum 2026 annual meeting in Davos. Netherlands-linked joint venture UPC Volt has announced plans to establish a 100 MW AI-ready data centre in Bharat Future City, backed by an investment of ₹5,000 crore over the next five years.
The investment proposal was formalised with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during a high-level meeting between the Telangana delegation and the leadership of UPC Volt at Davos. The project marks a major milestone in the state’s Telangana Rising 2047 vision, which aims to position Telangana as a global hub for artificial intelligence, advanced digital infrastructure and sustainable development.
A high-performance, green AI data centre
UPC Volt is a joint venture between Netherlands-based UPC Renewables Group and VOLT Data Centers, with a strategic focus on developing high-performance, energy-efficient AI data centres designed for next-generation workloads. The proposed facility in Bharat Future City will be AI-ready from inception, capable of supporting high-density GPU clusters, large-scale training compute, advanced cloud platforms and emerging AI applications.
What makes the project particularly significant is its integration with a matching 100 MW round-the-clock (RTC) renewable energy project, ensuring that the data centre’s power requirements are met through carbon-free energy sources. The renewable power integration will be enabled under Telangana Green Open Access, positioning the facility as a model for sustainable, power-first digital infrastructure.
Employment generation and economic impact
The ₹5,000 crore investment is expected to generate substantial employment and economic activity. According to projections shared during the MoU signing, the project will create over 3,000 direct and indirect jobs during the construction phase, and more than 800 direct and indirect jobs during operations. In addition to employment, the data centre ecosystem is expected to catalyse growth across allied sectors such as construction, power infrastructure, cooling technologies, IT services, cybersecurity, cloud management and advanced electronics.
Officials noted that the presence of such hyperscale AI infrastructure will also act as a magnet for global technology firms, startups, research institutions and innovation-led enterprises looking for reliable, scalable and sustainable compute capacity in India.

Strategic discussions at Davos
The Telangana delegation held detailed discussions with the UPC Volt leadership team, including Han de Groot, CEO of Volt; Steven Zwaan, Co-Founder of UPC Renewables APAC; Alok Nigam, CEO of UPC Renewables India; and Vikas Sharma, Assistant Vice President, UPC Renewables India. The talks focused on project timelines, energy integration, regulatory facilitation and the long-term roadmap for expanding AI data centre capacity in the state.
Hon’ble Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed satisfaction over the successful outcome of the engagement and congratulated Hon’ble Minister for IT & Industries D. Sridhar Babu for playing a pivotal role in securing the investment. The Chief Minister stated that Telangana’s ambition of becoming a $3 trillion economy by 2047 would be driven by the creation of high-calibre digital and physical infrastructure, while simultaneously adhering to a clear roadmap for net-zero development.
Telangana’s AI-first development strategy
Minister D. Sridhar Babu highlighted that Telangana is aggressively positioning itself as a global AI data centre hub by offering forward-looking policies and targeted incentives. These include support for high-density GPUs, large-scale AI training infrastructure, liquid cooling technologies, and energy-efficient designs tailored for AI workloads. He reiterated that the state’s development approach balances rapid economic growth with sustainability and climate responsibility.
Under the Telangana Rising 2047 vision, the state is creating three distinct economic zones dedicated to the services sector, manufacturing and agriculture, ensuring inclusive and diversified growth. Bharat Future City, envisioned as a net-zero, greenfield smart city, is a cornerstone of this strategy, designed to host cutting-edge digital infrastructure alongside sustainable urban development.
Hon’ble Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy was also part of the delegation and participated in the discussions, underscoring the government’s whole-of-state approach to attracting transformative investments.
Strengthening Telangana’s global positioning
The UPC Volt investment adds to a growing list of global commitments secured by Telangana at WEF 2026, reinforcing investor confidence in the state’s policy stability, infrastructure readiness and future-oriented vision. With its focus on AI, renewable energy integration and sustainable urban development, the project exemplifies the direction in which Telangana aims to lead India’s digital economy over the coming decades.
As Telangana continues to leverage international platforms like Davos to deepen global partnerships, the UPC Volt data centre project stands out as a powerful signal of the state’s readiness to host the world’s most advanced, clean and scalable digital infrastructure.
