Hyderabad, June 2: Telangana Chief Minister Shri A. Revanth Reddy affirmed the state’s commitment to forging global partnerships to accelerate sustainable and inclusive development across various sectors. As part of the Telangana Formation Day celebrations, the Chief Minister met with a high-level delegation from Kitakyushu City, Japan, led by Mayor Kazuhisa Takeuchi in Hyderabad.
The meeting marks a significant step in strengthening Indo-Japanese ties in the areas of environmental protection, waste management, recycling, and sustainable urban practices. In the presence of the Chief Minister, the Telangana government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kitakyushu authorities to explore collaborative opportunities in these vital sectors.
Environmental Inspiration from Japan’s Eco-Town Model
During his official visit to Japan in April, CM Revanth Reddy had visited Kitakyushu’s renowned Eco-Town, which left a deep impression on him. Inspired by the city’s sustainable development initiatives, the Telangana government has since entered into several Letters of Intent (LoIs) with Japanese organizations working in climate resilience and green infrastructure.
Welcoming the Kitakyushu delegation to the state’s formation day events, the Chief Minister said:
“Kitakyushu’s Eco-Town model inspired us deeply during our Japan visit. That inspiration has now translated into tangible steps — Telangana has signed multiple MoUs with key Japanese institutions to replicate similar sustainable models in Hyderabad. This partnership lays a strong foundation for a circular economy, net-zero emissions, and urban innovation.”
Focus on River Musi Revitalization and Youth Skill Development
Highlighting upcoming initiatives, CM Revanth Reddy stated that the revitalization of the Musi River is a major government focus. The project aims to transform the river into a clean, green, and vibrant urban corridor.
In addition, the Chief Minister emphasized the need to empower Telangana’s youth through skill development, particularly in the Japanese language, to unlock employment and educational opportunities in Japan.
“Many of our students are keen to learn Japanese with the hope of exploring career prospects in Japan. We look forward to your support in introducing Japanese language training programs in Telangana.”
Direct Flight Connectivity and Strengthening Ties
The Telangana government is also exploring the possibility of launching direct flight connectivity between Hyderabad and Kitakyushu, which would significantly boost bilateral tourism, trade, and cultural exchange.
Commending the progressive leadership of Kitakyushu, CM Reddy added:
“Kitakyushu’s development model aligns perfectly with our vision of a rising Telangana. We hope this friendship between Telangana and Kitakyushu will continue to grow stronger and last for generations.”
