Hyderabad: In a significant development for Telangana’s business landscape, American multinational fast-food giant McDonald’s has announced plans to establish its India Office and a Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Hyderabad. This major announcement was made following a meeting between McDonald’s Chairman & CEO Chris Kempczinski and Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.

Strategic Decision and Workforce Expansion

As per the Chief Minister’s office, McDonald’s is set to initiate its India office with an initial headcount of 2,000 employees. This strategic decision is expected to bolster employment opportunities in the region and further solidify Hyderabad’s reputation as a thriving business hub.

Telangana successfully secured this investment, overcoming stiff competition from other prominent states. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy played a pivotal role in ensuring Telangana presented the most attractive offering to McDonald’s, thereby influencing the positive outcome.

Why Hyderabad?

McDonald’s Chairman & CEO Chris Kempczinski highlighted that Hyderabad was chosen over other competing cities like Bengaluru owing to the city’s:

  • High-quality talent pool
  • Advanced infrastructure
  • Superior quality of living

These factors collectively made Hyderabad the ideal destination for McDonald’s expansion plans in India.

Global Capability Centre and Skill Development

As part of the initiative, McDonald’s will heavily invest in the Global Capability Centre (GCC), utilizing Telangana as a hub for skill development. The GCC will serve as a training ground for human resources, preparing employees for both domestic and international McDonald’s centres.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy emphasized Telangana’s outstanding skill development initiatives over the past 15 months. He encouraged McDonald’s to leverage the Young India Skills University to train employees not only for the new global office but also for their restaurant operations across India.

Boost to Local Agriculture

In an additional move to support the state’s economy, Chief Minister Reddy offered to supply McDonald’s with all the required agricultural produce from Telangana’s local farming community. This collaboration is expected to provide a substantial boost to the state’s agricultural sector while increasing farmers’ incomes.

Community Development Initiatives

During the meeting, Kempczinski also briefed the Telangana government about McDonald’s extensive community development programs conducted globally. He assured that McDonald’s will deepen such initiatives in Telangana, working closely with the state government to foster community welfare.

Future Expansion Plans

Currently, McDonald’s operates 38 outlets in Telangana through its Indian business partner. The company plans to expand its presence further by adding 3-4 new outlets every year, including in tier-2 and tier-3 towns. This expansion will cater to a larger demographic while contributing to the state’s economic growth.

The establishment of McDonald’s India office and GCC marks a notable achievement for Telangana, reinforcing Hyderabad’s status as a prime destination for global investments and innovation.
