A Lifelong Mission of Blood Donation
Srivastava’s journey began on October 2, 1983, when he donated blood for the first time at a National Service Scheme (NSS) camp organized by Viveka Vardhini College. This singular act of generosity ignited a lifelong mission that has spanned over four decades. As of March 2025, he has donated blood an astonishing 136 times, following a disciplined routine of donating every three months.
Beyond his personal donations, Srivastava has built an extensive network of over 7,200 active blood donors in Hyderabad, facilitating timely donations and aiding more than 8,000 patients. His relentless efforts ensure that no life is lost due to a shortage of blood.
A Call Inspired by Compassion
Dr. Srivastava’s commitment to service was shaped by his own life experiences. As a child, he studied under streetlights, catching the attention of a kind police inspector who later honored him for his academic perseverance. This moment inspired him to dedicate his life to uplifting others. Additionally, the words of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi—”Every drop of my blood will be used for the upliftment of the country”—deeply influenced his mission.
Beyond Blood: A Pillar of Support
His humanitarian contributions extend far beyond blood donation. Srivastava sponsors books and educational materials for over 400 underprivileged students each year. He has also actively participated in relief efforts for victims of the Andhra Pradesh cyclone (1996), the Latur earthquake, and the Orissa cyclone, providing essential supplies such as food, medicines, and warm clothing.
Acts of Courage and Unwavering Dedication
One of his most heroic acts occurred on May 18, 2007, when two powerful bombs exploded at the Mecca Masjid in Hyderabad. Amidst the chaos, he rushed to the site and personally carried over 30 injured victims to safety. Tragically, due to the tilak on his forehead, he was mistaken for a perpetrator and attacked by the panicked crowd. Despite his injuries, he continued his life-saving efforts, embodying the true spirit of selflessness.
Recognition and Legacy
Srivastava’s immense contributions have earned him numerous accolades, including a certificate from the Wonder Book of Records for donating blood 105 times. His story was also depicted in the short film “Capless Hero,” in which he played himself, inspiring millions to embrace the cause of blood donation.
