Hyderabad, April 11 – In a significant move towards improving urban connectivity and anticipating future expansion, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed officials to prepare final proposals for extending the Hyderabad Metro Rail to the proposed Future City near Mirkhanpet. The decision aims to enhance public transport infrastructure in one of the most ambitious urban development zones in the state.

The Chief Minister held a high-level review meeting at the Command and Control Center on Friday to assess the progress of Hyderabad Metro’s Phase 2 expansion and its future extensions.

Metro Phase 2: Status and Scope

During the meeting, officials briefed the Chief Minister on the status of Phase 2 of the Hyderabad Metro project, which spans a total distance of 76.4 kilometers and carries an estimated cost of ₹24,269 crore. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the project has already been submitted to the Central Government for approval.

The Phase 2 corridors include:

  • Nagole to Shamshabad Airport – 36.8 km

  • Raidurg to Kokapet Neopolis – 11.6 km

  • MG Bus Station to Chandrayangutta – 7.5 km

  • Miyapur to Patancheru – 13.4 km

  • LB Nagar to Hayathnagar – 7.1 km

The Chief Minister noted that although approvals from the Centre are still pending, consultations have already been held with central officials in Delhi. He instructed state officials to continue their engagement with the Centre and to be fully prepared to commence work immediately upon receiving clearance.

The state government has proposed the project as a joint venture, with both the Central and State Governments sharing the funding responsibilities.

Metro to Future City: Vision for Long-Term Urban Growth

Looking beyond Phase 2, the Chief Minister unveiled his vision for a dedicated metro corridor to the emerging Future City, which is expected to span over 30,000 acres and serve as a major hub for education, innovation, and urban living.

CM Revanth Reddy directed that a new 40-kilometer extension plan be drawn up, connecting Shamshabad Airport to the Young India Skill Development University (YISU) located within Future City. The metro line is envisioned to extend up to Mirkhanpet, in anticipation of future urban growth.

To facilitate this new extension, the CM instructed the preparation of a fresh DPR with detailed cost estimates and project scope.
