Hyderabad: At least 24 people lost their lives and several others sustained injuries in a devastating truck–bus collision in Telangana’s Ranga Reddy district early Monday morning. The accident took place near Mirzaguda village in Chevella mandal, when a gravel-laden lorry rammed into a Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) bus.
How the Accident Happened
Police said the RTC bus from Tandur depot, carrying around 70 passengers, was en route to Hyderabad when the lorry, coming from the opposite direction, lost control and crashed head-on into it. The impact caused the truck to overturn, spilling gravel onto the bus and trapping passengers inside.
Eyewitnesses described a harrowing scene as locals rushed to rescue those trapped beneath the debris, while passengers cried for help.
Victims Include Drivers, Women, and an Infant
Among the deceased are both drivers — of the bus and the lorry — several women, and a ten-month-old baby along with its mother, officials confirmed. Rescue operations are ongoing, and the death toll may rise as some of the injured remain critical.

Massive Rescue Operation Underway
Emergency response teams rushed to the scene and launched rescue efforts using three JCB machines to remove debris and pull survivors out of the mangled bus.
Chevella police reported that 15 passengers, including bus conductor Radha, were rescued alive.
During the operation, Chevella Circle Inspector Bhupal Sridhar sustained a leg injury after being accidentally hit by a JCB and was shifted to the local hospital.
Injured Shifted to Hyderabad Hospitals
The injured were initially taken to Chevella Government Hospital, and those with serious injuries were moved to hospitals in Hyderabad for better treatment. Officials said the Hyderabad–Bijapur highway was blocked for hours as rescue teams cleared the site.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy Orders Immediate Relief Measures
Expressing deep shock, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy directed Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao and DGP B. Shivadhar Reddy to supervise rescue and relief operations on priority.
In a telephonic review, the CM instructed that all injured be shifted to Hyderabad immediately and ordered mobilization of all government departments for emergency support.
“District authorities have been told to intensify rescue operations and ensure all medical and relief measures are taken up on a war footing,” said an official statement.
Possible Cause: Overspeeding and Loss of Control
Preliminary investigation points to overspeeding and loss of control by the lorry driver as likely causes of the crash. Police have registered a case and initiated further investigation into the incident.
Traffic Chaos on Hyderabad–Bijapur Highway
The accident led to a massive traffic jam along the Chevella–Vikarabad route, with vehicles stranded for hours. Police personnel were deployed to divert traffic and clear the stretch.
