Hyderabad: Hyderabad will play a key role in shaping the future of online safety and security, once Google Safety Engineering Center (GSEC) launches its operations in Hyderabad early next year. It will also create thousands of direct and indirect jobs for people in the city.
Making the announcement of the mega project along with IT and industries minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu and Google delegates recently, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy said that the Hyderabad centre will be the only such centre in India. It will be the second one in Asia after Tokyo in Japan, and only the fifth in the world.
The other three are in Dublin in Ireland, Munich in Germany, and Malaga in Spain. The GSECs are specialised international cyber-security hubs that play a crucial role in developing advanced security and online safety solutions. The GSECs focus on cutting-edge research and the creation of AI-driven security solutions.
Each GSEC tailors its work to address regional challenges. Given India’s dominance in mobile internet usage, the GSEC in Hyderabad could focus on creating robust security measures for Android, and other apps. It may also work on enhancing algorithms and tools to identify and curb the spread of misinformation across social media and messaging platforms, considering India’s linguistic diversity and dependence on messaging apps.
GSEC brings together Google experts from various disciplines, including VirusTotal, Mandiant, and Chronicle Security Operations, to build and develop innovative tools and technologies.
These centres work to understand and analyse the evolving cyber threat landscape. They also serve as platforms for collaboration among Google experts, policymakers, academics, and businesses. This collaborative approach is likely to enhance the collective understanding of cyber-security challenges and advance skills and expertise across regions. These centers contribute to fostering skill development in the cyber-security domain, helping to address the global shortage of cyber-security professionals
Revanth Reddy said that with the successful partnership with Google, the Telangana government had made history and set the foundation for transforming Hyderabad into a global hub for Safety Engineering & Cyber Security. He also exuded that the center will create thousands of jobs and the youth will get several great opportunities in times to come.
GSECs are important in many other ways as they will conduct research and development in combating online threats like phishing, malware, and cyber bullying. These centres focus on building tools that give users greater control over their data. The GSECs are strategically located around the world to address global cyber-security challenges and enhance digital safety for businesses, governments, and individual users.
