Hyderabad: In a significant step towards strengthening international economic cooperation, Canada’s High Commissioner to India, Chris Cooter, met Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy in Hyderabad and extended an invitation for the Chief Minister to lead a high-level delegation to Canada. The meeting focused on expanding bilateral cooperation across trade, investment, innovation, education, clean energy, urban development, and advanced manufacturing, while reaffirming Canada’s growing interest in Telangana as one of India’s fastest-growing investment destinations.
The high-level discussions reflected the deepening economic relationship between Canada and Telangana, with both sides exploring opportunities to collaborate on major infrastructure projects, knowledge partnerships, clean energy initiatives, and emerging technology sectors. The meeting also highlighted Hyderabad’s rising stature as a global investment hub, particularly in information technology, life sciences, aerospace, defence manufacturing, and Global Capability Centres (GCCs).
During the meeting, High Commissioner Chris Cooter commended Telangana’s progressive governance model, forward-looking economic vision, and sustained focus on employment generation. He described the state as one of India’s most promising investment destinations, citing its strong industrial ecosystem, world-class infrastructure, policy stability, and highly skilled talent pool.
Inviting Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to visit Canada, Cooter proposed a Chief Minister-led business and investment delegation aimed at exploring new avenues of cooperation between Canadian businesses and Telangana. He also announced that a Canadian trade delegation would visit Telangana in the coming months to hold extensive discussions with the state government and industry representatives in sectors including energy, urbanisation, defence, aerospace, and advanced manufacturing.
The High Commissioner highlighted several recent developments that demonstrate the growing Canada-Telangana economic partnership. He referred to Firan Technology Group’s decision to establish a manufacturing facility in Telangana as an important milestone in strengthening industrial cooperation. He also welcomed the opening of a Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Hyderabad by the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC), further reinforcing Hyderabad’s reputation as a preferred destination for global financial and technology operations.
Another major investment highlighted during the discussions was the strategic partnership between Canada’s CPP Investments and Hyderabad-headquartered CtrlS Datacenters. Under the partnership, CPP Investments has committed investments of up to one billion Canadian dollars, underscoring the confidence of global institutional investors in Telangana’s rapidly expanding digital infrastructure and data centre ecosystem.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy used the meeting to present Telangana’s transformation into a globally competitive investment destination. He outlined the state’s achievements in information technology, life sciences, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, defence production, aerospace manufacturing, electronics, and innovation-led industries. He explained that Hyderabad has emerged as one of the world’s leading destinations for Global Capability Centres, attracting numerous Fortune 500 companies due to its robust infrastructure, business-friendly policies, skilled workforce, and high quality of life.
The Chief Minister also shared his government’s long-term development vision aimed at positioning Telangana as a global knowledge and innovation hub. He informed the High Commissioner that several internationally reputed universities are planning to establish campuses in Hyderabad and proposed that a consortium of leading Canadian universities consider setting up a multi-university campus in the city. Such an initiative, he said, would significantly enhance academic collaboration, research partnerships, innovation, and talent development between Canada and Telangana.
Urban development and sustainable infrastructure also featured prominently during the discussions. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy briefed the Canadian delegation on several flagship projects currently being implemented by the Telangana Government, including the ambitious Musi River Development Project, Hyderabad Metro Rail expansion, and the proposed Future City initiative. These projects, he explained, are designed to transform Hyderabad into a sustainable, globally competitive metropolitan region equipped with world-class infrastructure and environmentally responsible urban planning.
Elaborating on the Musi River rejuvenation programme, the Chief Minister said the project goes far beyond river restoration. He explained that the government envisions creating an entirely new economic corridor along the riverfront by integrating modern urban infrastructure, commercial development, environmental conservation, and public amenities. The initiative, according to the Chief Minister, will generate significant employment opportunities while improving the quality of urban life.
Recognising Canada’s global leadership in sustainable technologies and environmental innovation, the Chief Minister sought Canadian collaboration in Telangana’s renewable energy initiatives, particularly in solar power generation and the development of a green economy. He expressed confidence that Canadian expertise in clean technologies, sustainable urban development, and environmental management could play an important role in accelerating Telangana’s transition towards low-carbon economic growth.
As part of efforts to further strengthen economic ties, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy invited Canadian companies, investors, financial institutions, educational organisations, and technology firms to participate in the second edition of the Telangana Global Investment Summit, scheduled to be held in December. He said the summit would provide an ideal platform for global businesses to explore investment opportunities, establish strategic partnerships, and engage directly with policymakers and industry leaders in Telangana.
Responding positively to the Chief Minister’s vision, High Commissioner Chris Cooter expressed confidence that Canadian businesses would find Telangana an attractive destination for long-term investments. He appreciated the state’s commitment to innovation, inclusive development, and job creation, noting that Telangana’s talented workforce and progressive policy framework offer tremendous opportunities for international collaboration.
Both sides agreed to maintain close engagement in the coming months, with reciprocal business delegations expected to explore concrete partnerships across multiple sectors, including clean energy, advanced manufacturing, aerospace, defence, education, financial services, urban infrastructure, and emerging technologies. The discussions are expected to pave the way for stronger institutional and commercial partnerships between Canada and Telangana while contributing to increased investment flows and technology exchange.
The meeting was attended by Advisor and Ex-Officio Special Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister K. Ramakrishna Rao, Invest Telangana CEO B. Ajith Reddy, TGIIC Managing Director Shashanka, ITE&C Joint Secretary Anudeep Durishetty, and Director of Industries Nikhil Chakravarthy, along with senior officials from both sides.
