Adilabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Monday announced a series of major development initiatives for Adilabad district, including the revival of the long-pending Pranahita-Chevella irrigation project at Tummidihatti and the construction of an airport, while launching a sharp attack on the previous BRS government.
Addressing a public meeting at Pipri village, the Chief Minister reaffirmed his government’s commitment to completing all pending irrigation projects across the state. He declared that the Pranahita-Chevella project would soon be taken up at Tummidihatti, emphasizing that it is his responsibility to provide irrigation water to Adilabad and transform the region into a fertile and green belt.
“We will resume the Pranahita-Chevella project and ensure irrigation facilities reach every farmer in this region,” he said, adding that the project would play a crucial role in boosting agricultural productivity in north Telangana.
In a major infrastructure announcement, Revanth Reddy revealed that the foundation stone for the Adilabad Airport will be laid on June 2, coinciding with Telangana Formation Day. He noted that the district, long considered backward due to poor transport connectivity, would soon gain access to air travel. The state government, he said, had held multiple discussions with the Centre to secure approval for the airport project.
Taking a dig at the opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), the Chief Minister questioned its decade-long rule, alleging that no significant development had taken place during that period. “People have permanently rejected the ‘Gadi Palana’ and given a mandate to a people-centric government,” he asserted, while urging opposition leaders to maintain dignity and restraint in political discourse.

Reiterating his confidence in the Congress party’s future, Revanth Reddy said the party would remain in power in Telangana till 2034. He highlighted that despite facing several challenges and cases during the previous regime, Congress leaders fought on public issues and successfully returned to power.
The Chief Minister emphasized that his government is committed to inclusive development without political bias. “We are sanctioning development works in all constituencies, including those represented by opposition parties. People should not suffer because of political differences,” he said. He added that initiatives such as the ‘Young India Integrated Schools’ are being implemented across the state to strengthen education infrastructure.
Outlining a long-term vision for Adilabad, the Chief Minister said the district would be developed as a hub for industries, education, and tourism by 2034. Land acquisition is underway for establishing a university in the district, and the foundation stone will be laid soon. He also announced that ₹225 crore has already been sanctioned for the development of the Basara Gnana Saraswati Temple, with additional funds to be provided if required.
Development plans are also in progress for other prominent temples, including the Gudem Satyanarayana Swamy Temple. Revanth Reddy assured that he would personally visit Adilabad every two months to monitor progress and sanction necessary funds.
Highlighting welfare measures, the Chief Minister said the Congress government has launched several schemes aimed at improving the lives of the poor and empowering women. These include free bus travel for women in RTC buses, 200 units of free electricity for eligible households, construction of 4.5 lakh Indiramma houses, and distribution of 6 kg of fine rice per person.
He added that women’s self-help groups are being encouraged to set up solar power plants and are being provided commercial spaces in Hyderabad to market their products.
Recalling his political journey, Revanth Reddy said he had earlier led protests in the region and organized the ‘Indravelli Dandora’. He paid tribute to tribal leader Komaram Bheem, invoking his slogan “Jal, Jangal, Zameen” as a guiding principle for equitable development.
“Our mission is to bring happiness to every poor family. We are not rulers, but servants of the people,” the Chief Minister said.
