Telangana Accelerates Women’s Empowerment: CM Revanth Reddy Expands Indiramma Saree Scheme, Explores Amazon Partnership for Global Marketing

Hyderabad: In a major push to strengthen women’s economic empowerment across Telangana, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced that the State Government is in advanced discussions with Amazon to take women-led self-help group (SHG) products to global markets. The announcement came during a video conference with women’s SHGs held from the State Secretariat, following the launch of the Indiramma Saree Scheme at Necklace Road on the occasion of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s birth anniversary.

CM Revanth Reddy paid floral tributes at the Indira Gandhi statue before formally launching the saree distribution program titled “Indira Mahila Shakti Sarees – For Women’s Dignity and Telangana’s Progress.”

Indiramma Saree Scheme: One Crore Women to Receive Sarees

Reiterating the government’s commitment towards women’s welfare, the Chief Minister said that saree gifting has long been a cultural symbol of respect for daughters and sisters in Telangana households.
“Just as brothers offer sarees to their sisters, the people’s government considers every woman in Telangana as family,” he said.

Key details of the scheme include:

  • One crore eligible women across Telangana to receive Indiramma sarees.
  • 65 lakh sarees allocated for rural distribution between November 19 and December 9.
  • 35 lakh sarees to be distributed in urban areas from March 1 to March 8.
  • One special officer to be appointed for saree distribution in every Assembly constituency.
  • Aadhaar-based verification and facial recognition to ensure delivery to every eligible beneficiary.

CM instructed district collectors to conduct the program at mandal centers in a festive atmosphere, involving MPs, MLAs, MLCs, and all public representatives.

Amazon Partnership to Take Telangana Women’s Products Global

One of the most significant announcements was the government’s plan to collaborate with Amazon to expand the reach of products made by women’s SHGs.

“We are in discussions with Amazon to ensure global market access for SHG products. Women of Telangana deserve international recognition for their hard work and craftsmanship,”
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy

The initiative aligns with the government’s broader goal of creating sustainable, large-scale economic opportunities for women.

Massive Support Systems for Women’s Financial Independence

The Chief Minister highlighted several ongoing initiatives that are reshaping women’s economic landscape in Telangana:

  • Petrol bunks, solar plants, and RTC buses allocated to women’s groups.
  • Interest-free loans revived and funds released after years of neglect by the previous government.
  • Women made owners of RTC buses, enabling them to generate income from public transport operations.
  • ₹30 crore income generated through the responsibility of stitching RTC employee uniforms.
  • ₹534 crore worth of school development works executed through Amma Adarsha Committees.
  • Procurement of agricultural produce entrusted to women’s SHGs.
  • A dedicated Indira Mahila Shakti Bazaar established on 3 acres near Shilparamam to promote women-led businesses.

Women’s Voices: Real Impact on the Ground

Petrol Bunk Success Story
During the interaction, Narayanpet District Women’s Federation President Arundathi shared that the women-run petrol bunk is generating ₹4 lakh monthly income, prompting CM Reddy to instruct collectors to take SHG teams from other districts to study the model.

Saree Designs Appreciated
Bhagya, the President of Rajanna Sircilla District Women’s Federation, thanked the government for the high-quality 6-meter and 9-meter sarees.
“The designs are beautiful, and we are very happy,” she said.

A Sense of Identity
From Komaram Bheem Asifabad, SHG leader Sridevi expressed joy that the sarees also serve as a uniform.
“These sarees give us a sense of identity and recognition,” she noted.

Ministers Praise the Initiative

Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka said the program reflects the government’s commitment to upholding women’s dignity and equality.
Minister Seethakka highlighted that the disciplined financial track record of women’s groups—with a 98% loan repayment rate—has earned banks’ confidence.
She urged SHGs to counter misinformation about the schemes and emphasized that the sky is the only limit for women’s ambitions.
